Life in a day

Today I watched this video - life in a day. I came across this video two months back. I could not find time to watch it fully as I was busy in the middle of the semester. Today I revisited the video and watched it. The video has a very magical touch to it. It is because, my feeling, it is natural. None of the scenes are directed by anyone. I did find a few scenes here and there where people deliberately did something so that it can go on the video. That is fine. It was still very natural.

One of the characters that I could not forget, mostly you would not too, is this Korean guy who is cycling all around the world trying to spread the message of peace. The scene where he talks about different flies that he has come across in his life is quite memorable. I recommend this movie for everyone. The movie is of course about the daily routines of people all over the world. It has tried to capture the diversity of this planet. But I was struck more by the things that we have in common than the differences. We sleep, we wake up, we eat, we play, we cry, we laugh, we live.

Lucky are the people who get to live their life. What scares me is not death, not humiliation but a life where I have no choice to even choose whether to "stand up and fight" or "curl and cry".

Durian is a funny fruit

Today I had the much anticipated fruit in my life - Durian. I heard about this fruit about 15 years ago in highschool. I never knew that I would eat it in Nancy Peluso's Poltical Ecology class - ESPM 168.

It was amazing to see Nancy cut it and distribute it to her students just before the end of the class.

West Berkeley

Our landlord wants us to move out. Today I and Deepak found a place on Haskell St. It is far from campus. But the road is flat for biking. It is super close to Berkeley Bowl west. Looking forward to a better eating :)
